How Does Matter Work?

Matter is not just another wireless protocol — it is a communication standard that runs over existing network technologies such as:

  • Thread (a low-power mesh network for sensors and automation devices)

The main components of a Matter system:

1. Matter Controller

This is the system’s control point. It can be:

  • A smart display

It allows you to control all Matter devices.

2.  Thread Border Router (when required)

Connects the Thread network to the rest of your home network and the internet.
